FILM SYNOPSIS
When a cold hearted telecom executive returns to his small island town for his estranged mother's burial, he learns about the true local Taiwanese/Chinese tradition that mandates him to marry within 100 days so that the parent's spirit can transition peacefully. When a typhoon leaves him stranded for 3 days, he rekindles romance with his free spirited, childhood sweetheart who is engaged to marry his step brother.

LOCATION: MATSU ISLANDS, A HOME TO FALL FOR
The 100 Days Production Team struggled to find the right backdrop on Taiwan’s main island before deciding to film on one of the remote offshore Matsu Islands.
Director Henry Chan says he shot the film in Cinbi (芹壁) Village on Matsu’s Beigan (北竿) island because the village looks like “it hasn’t been touched by time.”
“I wanted the village to be a character. If I came back to discover my own village and fell in love with it, it had to be attractive and beautiful,” Chan says.
But Matsu was an expensive choice. Lacking the infrastructure necessary for filmmaking, the crew had to ship everything to the island, including 14 trucks, cranes, generators and extras. And similar to the protagonist in the movie, a typhoon stranded the production team on the island a few times, however it was all worth it to shoot on the beautiful Mediterranean style island.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
A filmmaker is always looking for a good story to tell. Preferably a story that resonates with his own experience. When I read 100 Days, it struck a cord deep inside me, because Bo Dan’s story is my story. It is about coming home to find what you have missed all these years. It’s about seeing yourself in the most honest way. It is about falling in love again. Immigrants like myself have long tried to fit in the new world. Sometimes by burying our old identities. Eventually we realize there is something missing, something unfulfilled, something incomplete.
100 Days is the story of a man who has tried for years to forget his past, to bury that first love in a dark corner of his heart. He even tries to forget his own mother. When his mother dies, he is forced to come back to his birth place and face what he has escaped all these years. Bo Dan, the prodigal son, belittles everything and every person he meets in his “backward” village. He thinks there is nothing worthwhile for him in this forgotten backwater. Until a near death experience awakens what he has ignored all these years.....his first love Xiao Wei. But it may be too late because she is already engaged and soon to marry.
Bo Dan rediscovers his root, his home and his first love. In the process he rediscovers himself. In this fast paced, achievement oriented world, how often do we get the chance to stop and really look deep into ourselves? How often can we relive our most cherished memories? How often we wonder what happen to our first love? How often can we go back to have a do over? In 100 days, our hero did just that. We can all live vicariously through Bo Dan. May be, just may be we find our true selves again.

I made 100 DAYS for my mom because I promised her before she passed on...that one day I would do a movie for her and Taiwan. She had given me boundless gifts of happiness and love, even after she had gone. It's a film that celebrates the mothers in all our lives.
